MWC 2025 Day Two Recap

Day two of Mobile World Congress 2025 has come to a close, with a plethora of exciting announcements and updates from the world's leading tech companies. Meta and Internet Society have partnered to expand affordable internet connections, while Broadcom has unveiled its VeloSky tool to encourage network convergence. NTT, DOCOMO, and Nokia have showcased their hardware for 6G networks, and several major telecoms firms have teamed up to launch the Open Telecom AI Platform.

Other notable announcements include Tencent's proposal for a 'Super App as a service', Cisco's expansion of Agile Service Networking, and Harman's debut of its Ready Aware driving insights software. Additionally, HPE has introduced an industry-first precision switch, and Qualcomm and Ericsson have achieved a milestone interoperability device test on a frequency band to be used in 5G railway communications.

Samsung and AWS have demonstrated how RAN can utilize AI to plan, deploy, operate, and optimize networks using Amazon Bedrock. Lenovo has created and analyzed digital twins of race tracks using a bot that can map up to 2.7 million points per second in LiDAR. Intel has shown off the power of its new Xeon 6 processors, with a demo unit housing a Xeon 6 8670E offering a 3.2x boost in performance compared to Intel's 3rd Gen Xeon 6330N.

Etisalat has showcased a humanoid robot, and HPE has launched a new connectivity infrastructure and solutions to help meet the needs of enterprise customers. Telefónica has opened a Centre of Excellence for quantum technologies, and AWS has unveiled AWS Outpost racks designed for on-prem low latency, high throughput workloads, including Cloud Radio Access Network (RAN).

Capgemini has released research outlining the top priorities for B2B telecom clients, including a simplified buying process, customization over cost, and creating and orchestrating an ecosystem. Vodafone and IBM have teamed up to enhance mobile phone quantum-safe cryptography, using IBM Quantum Safe technology to boost the resilience of Vodafone Secure Net.

Microsoft has announced a telecoms-focused data model in Microsoft Fabric, designed to unify all data for networks and telcos. Nokia has revealed major AI-RAN development milestones, teaming up with Nvidia, Softbank, and T-Mobile to work on creating and rolling out AI-powered networks and infrastructure.
