Introduction to Skich Store

A new alternative app store, Skich, has been launched for iPhone users in the European Union. The store is specifically designed for mobile gamers and promises to offer a more personalized experience compared to other alternative app marketplaces.

The Skich Store is available for download in the EU via its official website and is currently developing an Android version. Although the store has no games available at launch, its CEO, Sergey Budkovski, has announced that games will start appearing on the platform in March, with around 20 developers having already expressed interest.

Features and Fees

Skich has developed a unique recommendation system, similar to Tinder, which matches gamers with games based on 240 genres, 14 times more than what is found in the App Store. The store will apply a 15% fee to developers for every purchase made, including in-app purchases, which is lower than the 20% fee applied by Apple to EU developers.

The launch of Skich is notable, given the limited number of third-party app stores that have launched since the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA) came into force in March last year. While the store's empty roster of gaming titles is a significant issue, it has the potential to provide more optimized recommendations once it rectifies this problem.
