Nintendo Switch 2 Details
Nintendo has revealed the Switch 2, the long-awaited successor to one of the best-selling consoles in history, will be released on June 5. The new device will have better graphics and audio than its predecessor, and a chat button allowing players to speak to each other while playing.
The Switch 2 will also come with a new Mario Kart game, titled Mario Kart World, which features improved graphics and new tracks. Other games announced for the console include Elden Ring, Street Fighter 6, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Kirby Air Riders.
The console itself has a bigger screen than its predecessor at 7.9 inches, with a better display - 1080p compared to the Switch's 720p, with HDR support and showing up to 120fps. The price will vary in different markets but in the UK it will retail at £395, or £429 with Mario Kart.
Games and Features
Nintendo has also confirmed that compatible Switch games will work on the Switch 2, while others will get Switch 2 editions with updated graphics and gameplay. The company has showcased several new games, including The Duskbloods, a new multiplayer game from FromSoftware, the developer of Elden Ring.
The Switch 2 will also feature a new voice chat function, which will allow players to communicate with each other during online multiplayer games. The console's controller will have a new C button, which will help control the voice chat feature.
Release and Availability
Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has called the new console a leap forward, eight years after the release of the original Switch. The company has stated that it has taken steps to ensure that there will be enough stock available at launch, to avoid the hardware shortages that have plagued other console launches in the past.
