Nintendo Switch 2 Preorder Details

Nintendo has revealed the preorder process for the upcoming Switch 2 console, which includes several requirements to prevent scalping. To preorder the Switch 2 directly from Nintendo, customers must have at least 50 hours of gameplay on the original Switch console as of April 2nd, 2025. Additionally, they must have purchased a 12-month Switch Online membership.

The preorder registration page on Nintendo's website outlines these requirements, which aim to prioritize loyal customers and prevent scalpers from buying up the console. Nintendo will track gameplay hours by requiring customers to opt-in to share their gameplay data.

The first round of preorder invites will be sent out on May 8th, 2025, with subsequent batches of invitation emails sent periodically until preorders are open to everyone. Customers who receive an email will have 72 hours to complete their preorder. Preorders at participating retailers will open to everyone on April 9th in North America and April 8th in Europe.

The Switch 2 console will cost $449.99 and feature several upgrades, including a larger 7.9-inch 1080p display, 256GB of storage, a C-button for in-game chats, and an extra USB-C port at the top of the device. New games, such as Donkey Kong Bananza, Kirby Air Riders, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, will also be available for the console.
