Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Accessory

Nintendo has announced a new camera accessory for the Switch 2, designed to enable video chats with friends while playing games. The Nintendo Switch 2 Camera is a standalone camera that can be placed near the user, and it will be available for purchase on June 5th, the same day as the Switch 2, for $49.99.

The camera can be used with Nintendo's new in-game chat system, GameChat, which allows users to connect with friends online by pressing the new 'C' button. During the Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo demonstrated various ways to use the camera, including overlaying the user's face on top of the game or displaying a video feed only.

The camera plugs into the Switch 2's extra USB-C port on the top of the device and can be used in TV, tabletop, or handheld mode. It features an adjustable wide-angle lens that can capture groups of people in one shot, as well as a high-sensitivity image sensor that automatically adjusts brightness levels. Additionally, the camera has a privacy shutter to cover the lens when not in use.

Some games, such as the upgraded Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, will utilize the camera to allow users to see their friends' faces while playing. Certain minigames will also incorporate the camera, requiring users to hit blocks or balance Goombas on their head.

Alternatively, users can opt to use a compatible USB-C webcam for video chats instead of purchasing the official Switch 2 Camera.
