Google has introduced a new AI-powered Gemini side panel to Google Calendar, enabling users to quickly and conversationally check their schedule, create events, and look up event details. This feature is available as part of Google Workspace Labs, the company's early access testing program.
To access Gemini, users can click the 'Ask Gemini' icon at the top right of their Google Calendar window. They can then select a suggested prompt or write their own. For example, Gemini may suggest adding a lunch event or finding the next meeting with someone. Users can also write their own prompts, such as 'When is my next meeting with Emily?' or 'Add a weekly workout every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6 AM.'
The idea behind this feature is to eliminate the need for manual searching or adding events to the calendar by leveraging Gemini's conversational abilities to get things done faster. Google Calendar is the latest Workspace app to receive a Gemini side panel, joining Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Chat.
Although it's unclear when the panel will roll out to more users, this development demonstrates Google's ongoing efforts to integrate AI-powered tools into its productivity suite.
