Cities: Skylines II Console Release Delayed
The latest update on the status of Cities: Skylines II has been announced by the game's developer, Colossal Order. Unfortunately for console gamers, the release of the game on PlayStation and Xbox has been delayed until summer. This news comes after the initial launch date of October 2023 for the PC version and the planned spring 2024 release for consoles.
According to the official notice posted on the forums of publisher Paradox Interactive, the delay is intended to avoid premature estimates and to provide reliable information when the game is closer to being launch-ready. The team's goal remains unchanged: to bring Cities: Skylines II to consoles in the best possible shape.
In addition to the console port needing more time, the planned asset editor for Cities: Skylines II is also not ready yet. The studio is working to resolve technical issues that are impacting game performance and stability with this editor.
The community around the original Cities: Skylines game was strong and mostly positive, but tensions have risen between players and the studio surrounding this sequel. The community was vocal about their disappointments with technical issues and a rough first DLC rollout. On the side of the developers, these disappointments devolved into personal attacks on team members. Hopefully, the situation will calm down on both sides once the game reaches a more stable state.
