Angel Cabrera, the Argentine golfer who won the Masters in 2009, is set to return to the tournament next month after serving a 30-month prison sentence for domestic abuse. Cabrera was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison in July 2021, and was later convicted of a second assault in November 2022.

Cabrera was released from prison last August and was cleared to play in PGA Tour-sanctioned events in December. He has recently acquired a US visa, which will allow him to participate in the Masters. As a former winner of the green jacket, Cabrera is eligible to attend the champions' dinner and play in the tournament.

Reaction from Golf Community

Fred Ridley, the chairman of the Georgia course, has welcomed Cabrera's return to the Masters. "Angel certainly is one of our great champions," Ridley said. "As we all know, he has been unable to participate in the Masters the last couple of years due to legal issues. We'll definitely welcome him back if he's able to straighten out those legal issues." Ben Crenshaw, who organizes the Champions Dinner, is also looking forward to seeing Cabrera at the event.

Cabrera has expressed remorse for his past mistakes, admitting that he had behaved wrongly towards his former partners. He will be joining other former Masters champions at the tournament, including last year's winner, Scottie Scheffler.
